Electric Scooter Speed Upgrade - 40km/h at 60v +more upgrades Scary stuff... It doesn't occur to this person that the vehicles Gio offers are not engineered and built to travel safely at 75kmh? Gotta be somewhere in law about councilling folks to commit crime (modifying ebikes to travel faster than legal limits...) Lock |

Unlike drugs, it seems that providing the technology is not illegal, it is the rider that is performing the illegal act by operating a modified vehicle.
No modifications Set fines for this is $85 plus costs. Unless you go by what the local law enforcements officials say, ignoring this section of the law, that modifying reclassifys the ebike as a motor vehicle opening them up to a number of law infractions never meant to be applied to ebikes. I have seen Kijijii ads that sell those aftermarket gas motors that claim they are legal (they are not). |

And out on Canada's Wet Coast:
http://www.mr-scooter... Mr. Scooterboost and All Electric Scooter Revolution and Products and Electric Scooter Services - Metro Vancouver Area and Benefits of Mods Seen in another Kijiji ad in Vancouver dated today: http://vancouver.en.c... Almost curious enough to send the $$$ to see just what is being sold (controller w/simple shunt mod, or?) Lock |

Almost curious enough to send the $$$ to see just what is being sold (controller w/simple shunt mod, or?) This October 8, 2011 Craigslist ad explains it: http://vancouver.en.c... HOP UP YOUR ELECTRIC SCOOTER 10-15KMH FASTER. INCL ALL PARTS/LABOUR - $110 (METROVANCOUVER/FRASERVALLEY) Right... so a little solder dribbled on the controller shunt to up the max amps... Really curious to hear the explanation about how higher speeds can be obtained at lower Wh/km... Unless the stock Gio controllers are horribly inefficient and he is supplying better controllers eg improving controller efficiency from 80% to 90% maybe. I wonder if standard Gio controllers feel hot to the touch after a "hard" run... Lock |

Well this October 10 Toronto Kijiji post confirms the shunt mod at least:
http://toronto.kijiji... Shunt mod for any scooter or ebike - $50 - To your specs Lock |

Just a warning to everyone,i've seen this persons posts now all over the electric vehicle forums selling lith type battery packs he is taking pre orders now.. I seen some questions he did not answer properly and seen alot of people question him about his product.
So just be careful i still think if you buy new batteries make sure the people you buy them from will support you and the questions you have.He could not answer any techy questions people had other than just pasting the specs from where he gets them from. Just a heads up there's alot of un educated e-bikers out there, i don't want to see anyone mislead when there are alot of good store front business's that come with experience. mike |

Lock, my bike goes 75km/hr. I would never in.stall that one someone else's gio, as I agree they are not built for it. However many evokes are. I soup up good to go ~55km/h. It is irritating that you would attack me on a public forum instead of asking educated questions directly. As for the post before me, I don't think your referring to me because I haven't posted about batteries at all. And the educated part doesn't add up either. I am an electronic engineering student. Formerly an aerospace engineering student. I think I can answer any question you have with an essay. It is peoples business what they do. I am not breaking the law in any way.
Next time talk to me Lock. Considering your position as a moderator of this forum I am dissapointed in you for starting a petty squabble. I have many satisfied customers. When you get tired of going 32km/h in a bike lane you'll call me too ;) 647-995-8064 Keep it real -Stew |

Stew, If ebikes are to stay legal. Then people shouldn't be modifying these bikes as it will have a negative effect on what this group is trying to accomplish. It just enforces the gas scooter communities beliefs that we're renegades and should be licensed and insured. -Vic Edited by Vic on Nov 16, 2011 10:07 AM |

I fully agree with Vic. I feel uneasy when people here boast about illegal speeds and illegal activities. Even discarding the legal side, it would seem reasonable that a motorized vehicle capable of 50km/h or more should carry liability insurance. Sure 32km/h is slow for many people, but illegal mods is not the solution. There are electric scooters that you can license and insure as LSM. Buy one, learn to ride it at the speed that it is intended for, and continue to enjoy a green ride. |

OMG..You should think twice about what you are doing, your gonna get someone killed by modding e-bikes to do 75kph..An aerospace engineering student!!!! You really should develop a electric scooter rocket to go to the moon. Do you realize if you sell someone a mod kit and they get hurt or even die that you will be liable.Let then figure it out on there own then there is nobody to blame but themselves.I guess the money must be good in selling mods..Good luck Stew Edited by mike on Nov 15, 2011 11:23 PM |
