Who is not riding in winter like this!!!! Today on my way from work I've spotted 4 e-bikes. One of them was turning right (from behind me) when I've stopped on the red light and rider said - "What a nice bike"
He was riding black Raptor! I didn't go when there was snow on the road - did it once and my bike was dancing, but as long as it is lower then -5C and no snow I am out and enjoying it. Love my e-bike! Cheers Danuta |

Hi Everyone! My name is Emma and I work for a consumer products company. A few of you were interviewed by my colleagues, Andy and Jenny, last year. They had a great time and learned a lot about e-bikes in Toronto.
I am continuing this research on e-bikes and e-bike riders. The research will involve the following: 1. Install and Initial Set-Up/Interview: 2 hour (max) period of time on March 14th or 15th 2. Test: Ride your bike as usual and complete short diary entries about trips taken on your e-bike 3. Uninstall and Final Interview: 2 hour (max) period of time during week of April 9th I am looking for individuals who meet the following requirements. 1. Place to install at your home with electricity available 2. Smart phone 3. Currently riding (as primary mode of transportation) 4. Be willing to let us drill a 15mm hole in the battery case and in sidewall surrounding it (we will plug this at the end of the test) 5. Be willing to participate for 1 month 6. Mar. 14-15 availability for install and initial interview 7. Availability during the week of April 9th for uninstall and final interview 8. Li-Ion (no prismatic) or Lead Acid battery 9. 36V, 48V, or 60V battery 10. Scooter style electric 2-wheeler (not bike style) 11. Must own the bike 12. Must use only 1 battery (cannot switch out multiple batteries throughout the day) If you meet these requirements and are interested in participating, please write me directly and provide 1)responses to each of the requirements and 2)your preferred contact method/information. I will respond to you directly to set up specifics. Compensation of $500 will be provided to participating individuals. I look forward to hearing from all of you! |

Hi Everyone! My name is Emma and I work for a consumer products company. A few of you were interviewed by my colleagues, Andy and Jenny, last year. They had a great time and learned a lot about e-bikes in Toronto. Hi Emma! I would be willing to participate in your research and I think I meet all your requirements but one - I don't have smart phone (I have cell phone). I also don't know if drilling a hole in the battery case will not result with leaking acid (I remove battery to charge it at work). I would also like to know what you mean by installation - what is involved beside drilling "small hole". Please let me know what you think. Danuta |

Hi All-
I'm still looking for more individuals who want to be a part of this research. I have received a few questions about the study that I will answer below. 1. The small hole will be drilled in the bike so that a wire can fit through to attach the 2 ends of the datalogger. One end will be inside the bike connected to the battery and the other end will be attached to the outside of the bike. No hole will be drilled in the actually battery wall. 2. We have revamped the approach and any cell phone with texting capability will work. 3. This study will involve 1 meeting (2 hr max) on the front end and another meeting (2 hr max) on the back end of the study. In the middle, you will be asked to send us info about the trips that you take (reason for trip and approximate distance). Other than that, you will not be required to do anything. And, just to reiterate, the compensation for your participation is $500! I look forward to hearing from more of you soon! Thanks, Emma |

I'm still riding. I took the opportunity of this long weekend to take most of the rear of my scooter apart to check the chassis for cracks, check the wires and connections and check for rust. Other than a lot of dirt and a couple tiny spots of surface rust, which I took care of with cleaning and Rustcheck paint, everything seems to hold up well to the snow, slush, salt and grime of winter. Now I reserved 30 used Makita 18V Lithium Ion battery packs from Doctorbass on ES. These packs use Konion cells which I plan to use to make a 14s14p 51.8V nominal 21Ah battery pack for the scooter. So Emma, if you want to do your research on my scooter while I still have the SLAs, better hurry up

$500 would almost buy me a new battery. Too bad I don't qualify for the study with my bicycle-style A2B Metro.

Yes, riding this winter has been no problem at all. Today I jetted over to European Meats in Kensington Market to pick up a big pork butt roast . . then dropped by Emmo`s flagship on Spadina, where poor Feng was sick (cold or flu ) and the place was busy like Spring . . I rode a customer`s X-Series while she tried my K-Series Urban . . I am seriously thinking of getting Emmo`s big X-Series with the new 48-30 lithium battery pack . . has a real range of 90k . . Feng was laughing and saying that if he rated its range by the usual manufactures inflated estimate, he could it call 120k,`
lol!Visited the Vietnamese grocery near Dundas and Spadina for a pint of fresh FannyBay oysters . . stopped by the Beer Store for a dozen cans, and thence back to the shack. BTW - if anyone is interested, my wife and I will almost certainly sell our identical Emmo Urbans (see my avatar and Ben Jamin photo album) in March or April. Both bikes are meticulously well maintained , though the battery packs (SLA) will probably need replacing in a year or two. Both have the optional, locking rear compartments, and both have had larger controllers added for more impressive acceleration and climbing. One year ago I had a crash on icy TTC tracks that put me on crutches for a while, but the only damage to my bike was the rear compartment and the front shocks, both of which were replaced at Emmo`s. Also had a very thorough safety inspection to make sure everything is still in perfect condition. Both bikes are in primo condition, and we will be asking $575. cash, battery chargers included. Those interested can talk to me here, or use my email thingy. Rolling cheers ![]() Edited by Ben Jamin on Feb 23, 2012 6:32 PM |

Let me be the first to say 'I'll take one' !
Hey Ben! Sent email Ben to you asking for first dibs, cause I am looking for this model for my 2nd project bike. My G545a now is now finished all her mods.....and now has 60 v 15 ah lipo,(and I did for much less and better quality setup than ping or china setups IMO) and I did mine for only 550 $ all in del'd! With my 2nd gear, she should now do up to 68 k and now can climb even the hogs hollow hills in toronto! 575 sounds fair Ben, do contact me and let me know details on when you want to sell, and whether I can see both bikes and decide which to grab and when And good luck with the new purchase, much new to come this year from emmo also! Cheers 4 now :) |
