Hey everyone,
I am new to this group. Thanks for making me feel welcomed. I was wondering if there were any plans in the works to install charging stations throughout the GTA. Ciao |

Vancouver charges ahead with electric-car plug-ins Friday, July 10, 2009 | 12:10 AM ET CBC News ![]() Electric cars such as the Maya 300 need charging stations that can cost as much as $2,000 apiece. (Steve Ruark/Associated Press) Vancouver city council has unanimously approved new regulations for electric vehicle charging stations. Under the plan approved Thursday, developers must include plug-ins for electric cars in at least 20 per cent of parking stalls in new condominium and apartment buildings, along with some city-owned parking lots. Council doubled the original proposal that would have required only 10 per cent of stalls to have the charging infrastructure. David Ramslie of the City of Vancouver said the initiative is drawing direct support from car manufacturers like Nissan and Mitsubishi. Ramslie said the city is getting attention from car companies when it comes to new model launches. "We've had discussions to bring electric vehicles to Vancouver first because we feel this city is set up in so many ways to support electric vehicles." The estimated price tag for the plug-ins is between $500 and $2,000 per stall. Developers are being given an 18-month grace period before the plug-ins are required. |

It is nothing short of amazing that Ontario is evening questioning sustainable transportation options.
Is it possible they are just not aware? Sometimes in government jobs they are put in "task areas" and their back is to the window, totally oblivious to what is going on behind them let alone all around them. |

As someone who's job includes reviewing proposed new and revised ON tax legislation, part of our process is to look at what's happening in other jurisdictions. BC in particular, as a matter of fact. So the MTO's myopic behaviour really baffles me. Whether it has any impact remains to be seen, but I did mention BC's progressive movement in my submission.

Many stores and malls have outdoor electrical outlets, installed for whatever reason but often used by people to recharge 'mobility scooters'.
I have used the WalMart outlets near the front door of the Dufferin Mall. |
