Are Electric Motors More Efficient At Higher RPMs?

I tired running my BionX on full throttle last night using lower gears on my mountain bike. The acceleration seemed better and I got up to almost 30 km/hr in no time. The battery gage didn't seem to drop as fast either.

I suspect that because the motor isn't lugging at low rpm's when I'm in a higher gear, that the motor runs more efficiently.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Absolutely more eff at higher RPMs (Bit of a generalization but mostly true...)

Check out this page and click on some of the "Characteristic graphs for some motors" almost half way down the page:

All motor like it when they run wide open. That is
why in big industry all of our pumps run wide open.
If we need to throttle the flow back it is done with
a automatic valve on the discharge of the pump .
The higher the flow, the higher the amp draw that
the motor will use .Your vacume cleaner is the
same .If the end of the hose plugs up your vacume
speeds up.
