I have folding pedals on mine, and I love them-- but I only generally use them for storage, to "slim" the bike a bit and prevent the pedals from catching on the surroundings when the bike's brought indoors somewhere for charging, etc.

There is definitely an issue with the low clearance on scooter-style e-bike pedals, and unfortunately having the pedals folded down does increase the chance of hitting the ground if you're taking a sharp turn. The solution to this would be having some method of "locking" the pedals/cranks in such a position that they would be pointed forward/backward on the bike, so that for example, one pedal wouldn't be low to the ground while the other points upwards.

Myself, I'm a taller guy at about 6'1", so I keep my feet on the pedals-- my legs are too long to comfortably and safely put my feet up on the floorboard (turning the handlebars isn't possible), and I use it more for carrying stuff anyway.

I do wish they'd made it so that we could remove the pedals, though... I absolutely agree that they can be more of a safety hazard than they tend to be useful.

Just curious, what bike do you have? The Motorino XPh (which I have) is built for taller folk. The Veloteq Commander Sho is the exact same frame and shell as well as the Daymak Austin is the same frame and shell. Though the Motorino has wayyyyyyyyyyy better grade tires and rims which add some height to the bike. Motorcycle grade DOT approved 8 layers tires with ABS protective shield.

Really? I've been taking that trail since May and haven't seen a single other eBike on it all this time. Where do you get on and how far do you ride the Don Trail?

I took it from Edwards Gardens at Leslie and Eglinton all the way down to the Lakeshore tonight. Damn was it cold! My hands were freezing after the first 5 km. Need to get warmer gloves pronto. It's starting to get too cold to ride. But I love riding.

I went all the way downtown in the dark, save for my headlight, on the Don Trail. Only saw one jogger and no other bikes or pedestrians. The jogger was wearing a red, flashing light. Moved over to the side as I approached with my high beam on. Exchanged a friendly "Hello, it's mighty cold tonight, eh?" as I passed. YMMV.

Haha nice. I work 8-4 so if I hit the trail in the morning its around 7:15am. I live at Queen and Bathurst and work up at Concorde Place (Eglinton and the DVP roughly).

If I take the Don to work I go down Queen then right on Parliment then enter the trail at Parliment and Lakeshore. Then I follow the trail till I can exit up onto Don Mills which is just south of Overlea Blvd (This is the bridge you go down and around then when you come out you can go right to Don Mills or left over another bridge, up a steep hill and over the wooden bridge with train tracks below). Though I find it more effecient and quicker to take the street in the morning as traffic is minimal. If I take the street I just go down Queen to Carlaw. Left on Carlaw, right on Riverdale, left on Pape, left on Leaside, Right on Overlea, left on Don Mills, right on Winford and then left Concord.

I really find the road more efficient as the KM distance is less. My Motorino out performs any other companies E-Scooters on the road.

My trip home I usually take the Don Trail. If I do I enter at the bottom of the big hill at the space and science centre then take it to the Paliment and Lakeshore exit. Today I will probably try the road though and compare my time. I have a feeling the road will be more efficient. Take the same way home but instead go down King. As its way more bike friendly than Queen after work.

As for the cold better gloves will help. You can also pick up heated grips to install on the bike. I might pick up a pair and test em out. http://www.motorcycle...

The only thing cold on me this morning was my toes and finger tips. My winter coat works well, I wear a second pair of pants that fit me when I was fatter over top my work pants. I wrap a scarf around my face and have a skullcap touque on underneath my helmet. I plan to drive till we hit -10 though may stop at -5. This morning was about that with the wind chill.

The reason we probably haven't passed each other yet is probably due to my Getting the Bike this past Friday so this is my first week with it.

I plan to start a blog and will make a nice big post on my experiences so far. I put together a nice rant on facebook and may of my friends loved it. They found it extremely informative so I'll def share it here too.

in the rant I address the anger and resistance to the bike. I address caveats I have with e-bike riders, the manufacturers and dealers.
