While fixing some lights on my ebike today I came across a new problem. When I pulled the rear brake the brake lights wouldn't come on. They work fine when I try the front brake. I narrowed the problem down to a faulty momentary switch in the brake lever. It's an old bike so I doubt anyone has the right part. I can improvise a new switch my problem is that I can't find any momentary switch that is ON when the button is released. I need it off when it's pressed. Anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately Vic all the brake switches in our E-bikes all have normally open and closed when pressed just the opposite of what you need which is a normally closed switch and open when pressed switch.

Maybe I'm wrong then. The manufactuer is Luyuan. I really doubt that mine would be different from everyone else. Does Mobility Unlimited sell that switch?
My understanding is that when the switch is released (you press the brakes) that a creates a ciruit that provides extra current to the lights. I am on the right track or am I completely off here? |

Hi Vic
It should do two things ( kill the motor and activate the brake lights ) Usually when they go you replace the entire brake lever , wire and harness plug all in one and I think they come in sets ( R & L ) . Be carful if it does not kill the motor when you apply the brake . Denis |

If it is a Luyuan E-Bike then Mobility Unlimited should have the Brake Lever with the integrated switch. Our Condor E-Bikes are Luyuan made like my Condor is.

Ken how much will it cost to replace the Brake levers? I'm a little concerned because as Denis pointed out the motor killswitch is also not working on the right lever.

Myself I am a Tech at Mobility Unlimited and I do not know the prices. Call and ask John at Mobility Unlimited.

Hello Ken
Do you also assemble the bikes when they first come off of the skid and out of the box ? The reason why I ask this is because we ( over at the GIO sight ) are having problems with the batteries . The GIO Brand is also a Luyuan product and it seems that all the scooters that are coming in from China are shipped with the batteries still plugged into the bike . Because of the small power draw from the caps in the controller and the alarm system while the bike sat in the Shipping box from China plugged in, it puts a load on the battery pack and brings it to a very low and fatal voltage destroying the SLA battery pack . ( when it is still Inside the cardboard box) This phenomena can be happening with every Luyuan bikes or scooters that they are selling . I don’t know how many different models but GIO is infected with this flaw and I will bet for some time to come . There is a good chance that there are a lot of dealers selling different models with the same flaw who are not even aware of this problem . So my real question is, when the ppl at Mobility Unlimited open the shipping box for the scooters are the batteries still plugged into the bike ? There is a couple of threads that you might find interesting that are going on at the GIO sight right now concerning this problem . It starts off a little funny but is not so funny at the end because this could be affecting you as well with no real way to stop it . http://gioebike.phpbb... http://gioebike.phpbb... Denis |
