MOT Regs: Must have wheels with a minimum diameter and width of 350 mm and 35 mm respectively.

I would expect one could interpret that the "wheel" plus tire needs to be 350mm? If not, there are an awful lot of e-scooters out there and being sold here in Ontario with 10 inch (254 mm) "wheels".

I'm curious about this... Watt the conventions are for describing wheel diameters... are bicycle wheels and motorcycle wheels and car wheels all described the same way?

One entry from Wikipedia (so may be correct... or not) about car tires:
http://en.wikipedia.o...

...The wheel size is the diameter of the wheel in inches where the beads of the tire sit on the wheel. This measurement does not include the rim flange. Modern road tires have several measurements associated with their size as specified by tire codes like 225/70R14. The first number in the code (e.g., "225") represents the nominal tire width in millimeters. This is followed by the aspect ratio (e.g.,"70"), which is the height of the side wall expressed as a percentage of the nominal width. "R" stands for radial and relates to the tire construction. The final number in the code (e.g.,"14") is the rim size measured in inches.

Right or wrong, most folks at MTO, lawyers etc probably think in "car terms" confused

I know several models of E-Scooters are built on the same frame as gas-powered 50 cc scooters ("Limited Speed Motorcycles" in MTO's terminilogy).

When you look at the MTO web site it says the following re the LSM's:
has a minimum wheel rim diameter of 250 millimetres and a minimum wheelbase of 1016 millimetres;
Note it says "wheel rim"

and for Electric Bicycles
Must have wheels with a minimum diameter and width of 350 mm and 35 mm respectively.
Note absence of word rim.

and for MOPED's, it is silent on this topic.

So who knows what they mean or why.

Seems pretty clear to me, no mention of rims means entire wheel.

So, where does this leave the 254mm rims?
With the rubber do they measure 350mm?

Are these babies legal? I'm ready to buy one for the wife and I, I think.

Buy Away

The Motorino E-Scooters are Legal because their Wheels are 350mm Diameter.

All I was trying to do was get Motorino to alter the wording on their Website and they couldn't see why they should.

Ahhhh gotcha, thanks for doing that. It's a good catch.
