Hi All, thanks in advance for any assistance with this question!
I have a Motorino XPv e-scooter. Its one year old, has 1100kms.

A couple weeks ago, my charger stopped working...no lights or anything, and I replaced it with the new one that Motorino recommends. Since then, there have been two times that my bike didn't have a full charge in the morning, which was strange, but the first one I thought my husband had unplugged it mid charge, and the second time, I thought maybe I had accidentally left the lights on.... in retrospect I don't think either thing happened, and instead there was a charging issue.

This weekend, I had it plugged in all Friday night. Then, because I was starting to get suspicious that there is a problem, I thought I would top it up tonight (Monday) for work tomorrow. When I plugged it in again, my new charger did not start charging. The power light came on, but not the charging light. So, I figured it was fully charged, and checked the voltmeter, and it is not at the high as it normally is, it is a bit below it...so I'm sure that it is not at full charge. I checked the fuse on the charger, it is fine, and the breaker switch on the battery is in the on position.

Any ideas? does this sound like a spent battery, or a failing charging system?

I'm going to take it down to the shop tomorrow, but any knowledge you can share would be helpful before I get there! thanks, andrea

I'll suggest maybe a loose connection... Maybe one of the wires that connects your batteries in series, or somewhere else in the circuit. Check to see that all connections are tight, and that no connections to switches, charging plug etc look corroded. If you have been running the bike for a bit ya can feel each connection to see if any feel hot. Did the shop test your old charger to confirm it was bad?

thanks everyone for the tips, I'll check all that out. I replaced the charger because it did nothing...no lights, or fan, checked various outlets, etc... that one didn't have a replaceable fuse or anything.

I probably discharge 25% daily, and charge every night. I have noticed on the odd occasion that I go farther, that I have a hard time getting 15k out of the bike... really chugging by the end. That being said, I do have 3 torque settings on the motor, and I rarely run in the economy mode unless I am afraid I won't get home... can't handle how slow it is! I tend to run in the high speed mode 99% of the time :)

I did store the bike out in the garage...debated on trying to bring the whole thing into the house, but decided that would be tough. The batteries on the motorino are a little inconvenient to get to... requires a lot of disassembly to get them out, so I haven't tackled that. I guess I'll see what the shop says today, although I haven't had a lot of luck on simple service items, I'm a little worried that they will just give me the easy answer... replace the battery...not sure how much troubleshooting they will do, but I will push the issue. I agree Lock, I was thinking loose connection because things have been hit or miss for a month or so.... Thanks everyone! andrea

Hello Andrea
What is the voltage coming off of the charger .
It should be somewhere around 55 volts for a 48 volt system .
These chargers seam to be the weakest link of these electric bikes .
Either they work or they don`t .

Had to chuckle at a post I saw where the poster bought four chargers recently from a China supplier and three of the four actually worked! ...this was considered a "successful" buy! biggrin

very interesting! guess what? it was the new charger again. NOt sure why I'm suddenly having issues with chargers, but I guess if we only expect a few of every lot to work, I was a victim of that!! Thanks for your help everyone, andrea

Depending on the design of the charger, some (usually the cheapest) will be damaged or killed outright if they are plugged into the wall and the pins in the plug at the ebike end are shorted by accident...
The shop supplying you with these chargers should be opening up the broken ones and finding out exactly watt was wrong. Bad assembly, or components burnt up, or wattever. It is possible they don't have the skillz inhouse to do this level of electronic troubleshooting. It is also possible they can be fixed by replacing a $2 part...

I think it was in my user's manual (Veloteq) that mentioned that you ought to plug your charger into the bike before plugging in the other end into the wall outlet. Not sure if this helps in your case. YMMV.
