Hehe... It's kinda a fun little blast-from-the-past, first entry April 2007. The blog entries are all posted as from "ebikerider" but a couple of the earliest ones say "Phil Goodfellow"...
Ahhh, here it is: http://ebikerider.wor... Two contributors maybe... Phil Goodfellow (2007 Veloteq “Commuter”) and "Matthew" (2007 Veloteq “Challenger”) Looks like these two also here. This site named "Blogs about: Ebike Design" but seems to link back to the Toronto Ebike Rider blog posts: http://en.wordpress.c... Pretty sure it's this "Phil Goodfellow" http://ca.linkedin.co... I'll drop him a note... invite him aboard here... see if he's still riding electrically... LocK |

Hiya David. Glad to see you here, and welcome aboard! For any folks reading this, a little background on this TEVA group... I kicked off this yahoo group because of my personal interest in electric vehicles. Well, specifically, electric *vessels*. I am interested in the possibilities for electrics for traction, as an alternative to the diesel powered craft that ply Toronto Harbour. Specifically as a relatively non-polluting method of transportation across one of Canada's most polluted harbours... Since last summer I have been trying to educate myself about electric vessels (boats are vehicles too, eh?) and have stored the results of my research (web wanderings) as a yahoo group at: http://groups.yahoo.c... Anyway, one thing has led to another. After hundreds of hours of readings in online forums and mailing lists and web sites, I decided I needed to have some hands on experience with an electric vehicle, and I went out and bought myself an electric scooter! This is a tiny little kick scooter (stand-up with no seat) that has two 12volt 10ah batteries and an electric motor rated at about 450 watts and the whole thing weighs about 50lbs. But it has all the attributes of a larger battery electric vehicle, with batteries and a motor and an electronic controller and a charger. This little eScoot is also a "fit" with my urban commutes, including electric subway, electric trolley car and electric RT ("rapid transit"). Now I am "driving" my eScoot around town, instead of waiting for the diseasal buses provided by our public transit. My commuting is now 100% electic. This little scoot is also a *terrific* amount of fun! A couple of days ago I discovered a "wrinkle" in my grand designs... A Toronto Police officer advised me that my little scooter is *illegal* on Toronto streets and sidewalks. In 2000, our Ontario Ministry of Transport issued a Bulletin advising that my scoot is considered a "motorized vehicle" under the relevant legislation, and an "off-road" vehicle, not legal on provincial highways (roads and sidewalks.) I am going to fight this! As provincial legislation stems from our Canadian laws, this is a matter of changes to our federal Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations. In 2000, Transport Canada amended our federal laws to recognize "bicycles with power assist". I believe it was a simple oversight that this change acknowledges pedal-powered vehicles while omitting foot-powered vehicles like my scooter (ie my scoot is foot powered with power assist, just like a bicycle.) Finally, in Canada I have found associations and clubs of folks interested in electric vehicles in Ottawa and Durham and Vancouver. I assume these are groups for kindred spirits. Why is there no Club or association yet in Toronto for folks that own or are interested in electric vehicles? That's it. If you have read this and understand what I have been rattling on about, please sign aboard this group!!! Electrics in Toronto need your support! Here's hoping you have an early Spring and a great summer in 2003 Regards Lock Hughes |

"A blog about ebike riding in and around Toronto" Roger did you not buy your scooter from Dan Cooperstock, he sold his Veloteq to you then bought a Fiddle 2 gas scooter, he has since sold the Fiddle 2 and upgraded to a People gas scooter. Ken Finch |

Thanks, Ken. You're absolutely right. I know the name Phil Goodfellow too, as he tried to sell me his Veloteq the season before I bought Dan's e-bike. As it turned out, I had to pass on Phil's offer as the battery wouldn't hold much of a charge and there were a few other problems that would've amounted to a pricier outlay, once all was fixed. I may be mistaken, but I think he too ended up with a gas scooter.
