hate to state the obvious here but in order for these Meet-Ups to work people need to be able to get to the Meet-Up location on whatever battery power they have available and then figure out how to recharge their battery pack for the return trip.
Then how fast can one charge their battery i.e. the Meet-Up lasts 2 hours but the battery takes 4 to 6 hours to fully charge. Toronto slopes down to the Lake and so any Meet-Up south of Lawrence Avenue is going to mean an up hill return trip unless you use the Valley Paths (Humber/Don). You can take an E-Bike on the TTC Buses equipped with racks and on the Subway but you cannot do that with an E-Scooter and so E-Scooter owners would need to either have really big batteries or the Meet-Up was under 20 KM from their home. Then there is always the question of why on earth would anyone want to travel a great distance to Meet-Up with people that have only one thing in common and that is they ride with Batteries?? I can understand that E-Scooter owners will need to connect with other E-Scooter owners for self preservation since E-Scooter riders are not well accepted by anyone so far compared to E-Bikers. When I first came here I pointed out that of the 8 Meet-Ups no one ever showed up and someone pointed out the reason was there were so few Members. Well there are a lot more Members now and the 2 Planned Meet-Ups in June appear Dead in the Water i.e. 2 or 3 people out of 97 Members? Shouldn't we have 25 or 30 Members at a Meet-Up? When Justin Lemire arrived in Toronto 2 years ago we had 14 E-Bikers show up at High Park to greet him and this was at 7 pm at night and it only took 48 hours to set up and get 14 E-Bikers to come together. This Group plans a Meet-Up 4 weeks ahead of time and cannot get more than a few Members to attend---> isn't something is wrong here?? Summer evenings are getting longer now, so why not Meet-Up after 6 PM on a weekday? Pick a Location where people can charge their batteries for the return trip. Locate near a bike route or Subway station. |

This Group plans a Meet-Up 4 weeks ahead of time and cannot get more than a few Members to attend---> isn't something is wrong here?? I'll suggest something is *different* here Joshua... that you come from a world of EV hobbiests. Where folks are passionate about their vehicles and love to dabble in the tech. OTOH most of the folks riding the scooter-style ebikes just want to get to work? They don't see their rides as something to be stripped down and rebuilt and modified and upgraded? Folks might bond over a shared interest in contactors or BMSs, while here the shared interest might be more political and cultural, where folks are drawn together because they are interested in new tech that is having to struggle to fit in, and EVen this represents only a tiny minority of the scooter-style ebike riders out there, most of whom wouldn't think about joining any group, online or other wise, to tap/talk about their vehicles... There is probably a low member turn out for a reason. Members join and then don't stay. We should probably look at what's going on with the forums. There are some very strong opinions here that are borderline aggressive. Usually happens with forums. It could be worse, we could have trolls..........

I can see that coming down the pipe -- especially as the city of Toronto continues to look for ways to collect more money for their inept over-spending. I can see the province, or even the city starting in on ebike's that are escooters with new licensing requirements as the initial way to begin the regulation -- and generate revenues from the fees collected for the new licensing. Then they could slowly clamp down on when and where we could go -- maybe even force us all to give urine and blood samples too . . . Well, probably not that far! But I agree, we should start an ebike lobby group to ensure our voices aren't ignored among all the other competing special interests -- cyclists in the city have a lobby group, even TTC users of late are getting attention to the issues which affect them. I hear Sid Ryan may be in hot water since his last comment about Toronto cops being planted in G20 protests to incite riots so the government can justify the $1 billion-plus security price tag -- maybe we could get him as our spokesperson for cheap :) |

E-Bike Forum participation tends to drop in summers and members tend to dropout and return in late September/October. Summers are when people ride, not sit at their keyboard.

`Cept these two lost Members aren't just busy playing outdoors, they actually cancelled their user accounts here. Watts worse than a forum for ebikers getting quiet in the summer months? A forum for sailors! I helmed a bbs for years dedicated to recreational sailing... 300 aboard in Toronto but with 3000 aboard system-wide as there were sister-ship systems operating in a dozen cities around NA, and yah it always got very quiet in the summer/sailing months!
