Had a weird discussion today with the Ministry of Transportation about Lighting and the last email was this: (note the last part about NO Flashing Red Rear Lights. I have NEVER seen a Red Tail Light that does not Flash--Strobe)
Lighting (e-bikes) By law you must have a white front light and a red rear light or reflector when you ride between one-half hour before sunset and one-half hour after sunrise. As well, the law requires white reflective strips on the front forks and red reflective strips on the rear stays. You may use a red light (that does not revolve or flash). |

I think the ministry is losing it. Almost all the cyclists I know (not ebikers) have a strobing rear red light.

I have NEVER seen a Red Tail Light that does not Flash--Strobe) One of these 8 LED lights from ebikes.ca only burns 0.6W and has an on/off switch with flash optional... ![]() These waterproof rear lights run on anything from 12V to 100V DC so can be wired directly to pack voltage. Currently listed at $63 Cdn. Plans for my scoot don't call for bike-style front fork or read stays, so presumably no need for reflective strips on these non-existant bits... Lock |
