EVerybuddy remembers THAT day, right???
...the day/night that the big electrical blackout hit Ontario and a chunk of the US Northeast as well? I missed yesterdaze blackout downtown. Wasn't affected up on Bloor... But reading about it today reminded me about 2003. When the power went off I was in a meeting on Lawrence at Avenue Road. We moved the meeting out doors once we figured the whole neighbourhood was blacked out. By the time the meeting ended close to dinner time the scoot was still only 1/2 charged (of course!) and I headed home anyway as it meant lots of lazy/easy downhills all the way back to the harbour... Anyway, point is, that day was a stinkin'hot and muggy day like today. The sidewalks were full of folks in office attire trudging back home, mostly headed north and up hill, and many obviously not used to doing a lot of walking especially in hot weather. 1/2 my trip I was just standing on the scoot and rolling down hills tucked in behind pedestrians that didn't know I was behind them... The comments from the folks struggling home were amusing. They were offering me money to buy my scoot! An awful lot of `em just commented stuff like "Cool Ride" and "Where Can I Get One of THOSE?"... hehe... It was a pretty fun trip home that evening. It's just so nice when the weather is this hot to have the power-assist and "lean on it" maybe a little more than usual... There's a bit of a breeze today (Thank the Gods!) but sliding through the hottest daze with the power-assist is one of the funnest ways I know to help stay cool! nice thing about being an e-motor kit Dealer was having almost 40 Currie 24V Battery packs and 8 Li-Cobalt packs on the shelf in my apt.
THe wife and I sat on our balcony with everything feeding off the batteries and I continued to cycle on my electric recumbent daily. Our local Ice Cream store was giving it away by the tub full (no hydro = no refrigeration) We lived on the first floor of a 23 level tower and the poor bastards who had to climb up and down the tower in all that heat--> surprised no one fell over dead. Yesterday we had hydro but a block away it was out but we have the generator so we're okay if the power goes off. |
