The other day I was riding my e-bike along Lakeshore Blvd, after the Waterfront Trail ended just before Bay Street, heading east when I came to a red light. I was surprised to hear those words, "Get out of my lane!" from behind me. To my surprise, it came from a young man on a skateboard.

WTF? It was never your lane to begin with!

He thought you were on a real scooter. The lane is technically the bike lane so that's why he said something.

But he's on a skateboard! They're not supposed to be on the road in the first place.

Why not? Ya mean they should be on the sidewalks??? In my `hood I see "couples", one on a pedal bike and one on a board, traveling together in the bike lane or at the side of the road... I can't tell the difference, except I know the US CPSC study of kick scooters found the scooters and bikes both far, far safer than inline skates and skateboards... Pretty sure when ya add handbars and brakes to a skateboard it makes `em a much safer vehicle. The only time I EVer tried a skateboard it took most of a year for my shoulder to recover biggrin

I politely told him I'm legally allowed to be there. Then I sped off, leaving him in my dust. :)

This skateboarder was nothing compared to this pedal-bike woman I had the displeasure to encounter today.

my "feeling" is we're headed for a showdown with everyone from motorists to Lycra cyclists to pedestrians by summers end.

There is this growing resentment that I hear on the news channels and it always comes back to what I said when I joined this Group, E-Scooters are going too damn Slowly compared to E-Bikes.

The Government says E-Scooters are E-Bikes are the same but then restricts E-Scooters to only 20 mph but that does not apply to Electric Bikes so how can both styles be listed as E-Bikes?

E-Scooters operate at an unfair disadvantage IMHO

You are restricted to 20 mph as are Electric Bikes but we wanna increase our speed we have that option via the cranks.

Regular Cyclists are complaining that E-Scooters travel too slowly and they are correct. They are not complaining about Electric Bicycles because we match or surpass their speeds.

You are restricted to 20 mph as are Electric Bikes...

These two statements are contradictory... Please quote the letter of the law that makes a distinction between the maximum speed of scooter style ebikes versus other ebikes.

Regular Cyclists are complaining that E-Scooters travel too slowly and they are correct. They are not complaining about Electric Bicycles because we match or surpass their speeds.

And I'll say they are complaining about the scooter-style ebikes going too fast. Again, post links to specific complaints please. Otherwise this is just hearsay.
