File this under marketing I guess... I actually really like the style of the little Nicoms showing up. I mean their model "TDR48K15". Catchy name eh??? Might be why when they hit Canadian shores they are rebadged as things like the "EMMO K545A":

...but anyway... This is a pretty slickly produced promo video where the TDR is featured pretty prominently and the ebikes are being sold to "hipsters". The Nicom styling is a standout from the other China-made scooter styles. Physically smaller and lighter but also *visually* smaller looking, and might be seen as "cute" by some and less threatening to the Chicken Littles. I think folks like EMMO will sell a ton of these... Upgraded to a lithium pack and with the motor overvolted a bit this lighter weight scooter-style ebike could be a huge success IMHO.

I saw a row of those NiCom E-Scooters at EZ Rider yesterday and watched a chap accelerate from a dead stop and that puppy has loads of torque.

You'd get no grief taking a NiCom on the Subway especially if you went Lithium to reduce the weight.

Cool video, definitely one of the best ones I've seen produced promoting the an ebike.

Not crazy about the guy convicted of DUI saying: "I'm an alcoholic, and I can't drive, but I can drive one of these legally." Makes me feel real safe knowing he's on one of these things, one hand on the handle, the other holding his bottle of Scotch. . .

Aside from that, great promo video. Though some of the "jump" cuts were to fast, I had to stop and go back to read some of the text on the screen. Or maybe that's just me and my old age ;)

DUI in Canada is a slap on the wrist but in the USA a DUI can be serious jail time, License suspensions for years or for Life and a good percentage of E-Bike sales are for DUI Convictions. No numbers but it is high and I knew of E-Bike Dealers who stood outside Court Houses selling e-scooters and e-bikes.

The penalties for riding an bike drunk are the same as for any other vehicle - suspended liceNce, fine and possible jail time. If you also drive a car but are caught on your ebike or boat this is especially harsh because you may never have driven your car impaired.

Since a licence isn't required for an ebike or a boat your continued ability to operate them won't be affected by the suspension nor will your right to ride a pedal bike be affected. The whole reason for not requiring a licence is the belief that bikes are safer than cars and I have to agree.

A drunk driving conviction doesn't usually result in an order for house arrest so those convicted are entitled to find alternate transportation for the duration of their suspensions. If you are arrested for riding your bike impaired then you will still receive additional and longer suspensions of your licence, increased fines and longer jail terms for each additional conviction so it's no free ride.

couple of years ago the Ombudsman for Ontario announced that over the course of One Year of all the Car Drivers stopped by the Police for whatever reason the Police reported 55,000 people in Ontario were driving either with a License Suspension or had never bothered to obtain a License and to get a few laughs added one Woman was found driving impaired who had taken and failed her driver examination 28 times.

Didn't we just nail some guy with 55 License Suspensions for Impaired Driving?

Ontario has a long love affair with the Car and so you cream a cyclist and no jail time. In the USA you go to Jail for 90 days and never see a drivers seat for 5 years if ever.

They just ruined a couple of songs for me, by The Faint and by Daft Punk. Other than that, and the aforementioned blip about the DUI guy, it seems to try to appeal to the MTV generation. Could probably be edited much tighter, down to 60 seconds or so. I like the image of the polar bear on the tiny ice floe. But just how green-thinking is the youth of today?

For what it's worth, in conversation with Feng of Emmo, he's espoused that he has indeed been selling a ton of these things.
