Just wondering if anyone knows somewhere I can go where I can learn to repair these bikes. I suppose I could learn myself by taking my own apart but I'd rather someone show me. Replacing batteries is easy, I want to learn the more complicated stuff like completely redoing the brakes.
Thanks, Vic Edited by Vic on Jul 20, 2011 8:47 AM |

Go to SauseBike on Broadview / Dundas. They will teach you for free. You talking bicycles right?

That'd be Bike Sauce:
http://bikesauce.org/... From the title of this thread I'm guessing Vic was referring to scooter-style ebikes, and I also think he's already capable w/pedal bike mechanics and ebike stuff. Just guessing now, but pretty sure Bike Sauce is NOT interested in the scooter-style ebikes... Lock |

escooter would be a low speed electric motorcycle, and electric version of gas powered scooters. Using escooter is a misnomer for scooter style power-assisted bicycles and further confuses the general public about scooter style power-assisted bicycles, with whom we already have a public relations problem. Please let us not use escooter for naming ebikes of any variety, and stick to the description ebikes.
I am assuming Vic wants to go to an ebike repair shop to observe, volunteer, or "apprentice" in order to learn the craft. I would imagine most ebike mechanics are self-taught, as I doubt there is a training course offered anywhere, which would be a good choice if they were available. |

You might be surprised how open and accommodating Feng at Emmo's flagship store on Spadina is. His father was an e-bike mechanic in China, and taught Feng the skills . . now Feng has trained all sorts of people at his various shops across Ontario. I have learned a fair bit by having work done there (replaced and rewired smaller controller with larger one, replaced front shocks damaged in winter accident, etc.) asking questions and watching the work. His business is growing exponentially, and they are hiring all the time. learning cheers |

That's why some time ago we decided to start called them open frames ebikes and scooter style or closed frame ebikes. This happened some time ago. Although I can't find the thread anymore with the "useful" <-[Internet needs a sarcasm font] search options on here. I don't know if you notice but my original post is from a year ago. A lot has happened here in that time :-). But I'll edit the original post to avoid any further confusion. -Vic |
