In the ongoing battle between cars and bikes in downtown Toronto, chalk one up for the cyclists.

Construction will begin Friday to add bike lanes on Jarvis Street, from Queen Street East to Charles Street. As a result, Jarvis will be reduced from five lanes to four, and parking will be eliminated on that stretch.

What do you think of the plans to a bike lanes to Jarvis?

Vote in our poll or leave a comment below.

Do you think adding bike lanes on Jarvis Street is a good idea?

(Responses as of early Sunday morning)
Yes, we need more downtown bike lanes 29%

No, we need the extra lanes for cars 71%

I always say yes to more bike lanes, traffic will be just fine on Jarvis after. They are eliminating parking on the street so traffic should always be moving.

Yvonne of the Toronto Cyclists Union already got two tickets for riding her bike on the centre lane before construction was complete. Way to set an example. ;)
