Vic,

Thanks for the comparison between the Gatto and Volare. I actually spent a good afternoon at Mobility Unlimited in the spring, and spoke with a nice man about the offerings there.

Was totally in love with the Volare. Yep, I like that Euro-scooter styling.

Was quite impressed with the time the gentleman afforded me too.

Awesome service, and I wasn't a customer (yet).

BTW, here's a link to the ad for the sale of the Gatto.

Tracy... It's true, the first time ya disassemble the bike to remove the batts might take an hour or two, but the second time will take ten minutes max.
Ya only have to remove the "whole" pack including the little/short "jumper" wires that will connect the positive from one batt to the negative of the next...
Not to belabour this, perhaps I am just a klutz...

HAHA... Fred. Yer so NOT a Klutz... I defer to your PRACTICAL experience with scooter-style ebikes. My remarks here are based only on University-level academics I had in high school fooling around with chemistry (aka "batteries") and physics (aka "electrics") plus my experience with just TWO SLA batts in series (aka "24V") in tiny EVs where the "pack" (such as they were) were easily accessible...

"Ten minutes" I hope you will accept as "poetic license". Meaning it's much less time to accomplish a second time...

Again, I am NOT familiar with the scooter-style ebikes where the 48V packs might be physically split but the *theory* remains the same... just the location and physical length of the wiring might be different...

Interested to hear that you have a heating pad "jammed" into the battery mix. Details please? I have two "Farnams" as heating pads for a LiFePO4 cells/pack, so tell me pls watt you have?

I have said this here before (I believe) but the costs per km of batteries for an EV (where energy costs for transport as Wh/Km are tiny, really) are negligible versus the 20th-century ICE option) or TTC wink

Fred,

I've actually never seen what the Valore looks like on the inside and I'm curious. So the next time it's apart would you mind taking some pictures? You know for the curious minds on here smile

It's not my favourite hobby..taking it apart, and I don't have any immediate need. However, next time, I do, I will take some pictures. Nothing too exciting there..batteries, controller, etc.

Sorry Fred I should have clarified. I didn't mean right now. I meant in the future when there actually may be a need to open it up. No rush really.

Note: Fred I'm really sorry I edited your post by accident. You were telling Lock something too.

Well, the seller doesn't return my calls. He did once, then not again. I guess it's either not available, or he isn't too interested in selling.

Onward and upward!

I'll be interested in hearing if there are any end of season bargains around!

Well..I do not have a particularly elegant approach.

Last time I disassembled my bike (remember it has 2 pairs of SLA's -- one set at rear and one nearer to the front), I put an off-the shelf Sunbeam heating pad -- the kind old guys like me use for aches and pains with the cloth cover removed -- under each set of batteries. These things are 12" x 14", 50 watts, with 4 heat settings. I am not absolutely sure I will even use them this winter, but they are there in case I decide to.
